My name is Paige Whitecotton, and I am your 2009-2010 PTA President. I am so excited to be leading Elliott PTA for the second year! Our board is full of parents and teachers eager to help build relationships between our Elliott parents, staff, and community. We would love for you to be a part of it! I wanted to give you a few examples on how PTA impacts the students at Elliott. We help plan educational programs for the students throughout the year, along with helping provide things such as books for the classrooms, recess equipment, CAMP equipment, supplies for our science lab, and fun nights for Elliott families such as Popsicles in the Park, Family Pizza Night, and Picnic in the Park.
As a PTA member, you are more likely to be an informed, involved parent. Research shows that getting involved in your child's education helps him thrive at school. Not only is your child more likely to earn higher grades and stay in school, but according to a study done by the Los Angeles Annenberg Metropolitan Project, the schools themselves get better when parents take an active role. One great way to keep a constant connection to your child's school is to join the PTA. More than ever, it is important for parents to learn ways to keep children safe, trouble free and involved in school. PTA is the best place to gain that knowledge. I look forward to getting to meet and volunteer with each one of you this year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at

Benefits
PTA provides opportunities to meet and to talk with other parents who have the same worries as you. By sharing common concerns, you will feel more empowered to do the tough job of parenting. Being part of PTA results in parental support and makes school involvement easier. You will no longer feel “all alone” in raising your child. PTA also provides educational opportunities. From Local-level parent education meetings to the Texas PTA Annual Convention, PTA encourages learning and the sharing of accomplishments.
